BRS Demands Apology From CM Revanth Reddy Over Council Session Conduct

<p>The Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Sunday demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy apologise for the way the Telangana Legislative Council proceedings were conducted, accusing the Congress government of suppressing opposition voices, deploying excessive police, and disregarding established legislative norms.</p>
<p>Leader of Opposition in the Council, V Madhusudhana Chary, hit out at the government at a press conference in Hyderabad, saying the Congress routinely claims to be upholding democratic values as its 'Seventh Guarantee', but its actions inside and outside the legislature tell a different story. He questioned why a heavy police force was needed on the Assembly and Council premises if the government was genuinely committed to democratic principles.</p>
<p>"The BRS submitted adjournment motions every day, but all of them were rejected. The party also pitched 20 issues for discussion, but the government ignored them. The Congress feared discussion as it had achieved nothing during its 1,000-day rule in the State," Madhusudhana Chary said.</p>
<p>He alleged that the House was convened only to serve the ruling party's interests, while decisions taken by the Business Advisory Committee were set aside. The obstruction of BRS MLAs and MLCs outside the Assembly premises was a conspiracy, he charged. BRS members were denied entry into the House for wearing pink T-shirts. Marshals were also deployed inside both chambers.</p>
<p>"I too served as a Speaker. Even in united Andhra Pradesh, there was never such a massive police deployment and overzealous action," he said.</p>
<p>Madhusudhana Chary also criticised the suspension of two BRS MLCs, alleging it was carried out without any discussion. "Fearing that a vote would lead to the disqualification of MLCs who had defected, the ruling party suspended our members. It was all preplanned," he charged.</p>
<p>MLC Surabhi Vani Devi said women MLAs were subjected to a terrible insult during the proceedings and maintained that if justice was not delivered in Telangana, the party would take the matter to New Delhi. She questioned the rationale of deploying around 500 police personnel to manage about 40 public representatives.</p>
<p>Vani Devi also raised concerns about a 463-page Bill being placed before members just minutes after the Council Chairman announced its introduction. She questioned how members could read 463 pages in such a short span and argue the matter properly, accusing the ruling party of treating important legislation in a perfunctory manner.</p>
<p>MLC Deshapati Srinivas said that since the Congress government could not achieve anything substantial in its 1,000 days in office, it had adopted a confrontational attitude towards the BRS. He demanded to know why there was no discussion on the River Krishna and Godavari water shares, or on the implementation of the six guarantees.</p>
<p>Srinivas pointed out that BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao had taken 43 decisions at the very first Cabinet meeting after becoming Chief Minister, and asked whether Revanth Reddy had taken a single decision that genuinely benefited the people of Telangana.</p>
