Hyderabad Police Step Up Security for Bonalu Festival with Multi-Agency Deployment

Hyderabad: Ahead of the annual Bonalu festival, Hyderabad Police have strengthened security arrangements across the city to ensure devotees can celebrate safely and without disruption. A comprehensive security strategy has been prepared, with personnel from multiple police units set to guard major temples, procession routes, and crowded public areas throughout the festival.

The security review was conducted by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, who held a meeting with senior police officials to assess preparedness and issue operational guidelines. Officers were instructed to remain alert and coordinate closely to maintain law and order during the festival period.

As part of the enhanced security measures, personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Task Force, City Armed Reserve (CAR), Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), and local police stations will be stationed at important religious venues and sensitive locations across the city.

Several temples that attract large numbers of devotees during Bonalu, including Golconda Mahankali Temple, Balkampet Yellamma Temple, Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad, and Lal Darwaza Mahankali Temple, will receive additional police protection. Authorities expect heavy footfall at these locations during the festival.

To enhance the safety of women devotees, SHE Teams will also be deployed at crowded areas and major event venues. Police officials said these teams will closely monitor public spaces and take immediate action against harassment or other offences. Surveillance has also been strengthened based on experiences from previous Bonalu celebrations.

Traffic management is another major focus of the security plan. Hyderabad Traffic Police have been directed to implement special diversion plans, regulate vehicle movement, and deploy additional personnel at key junctions to minimise congestion around temples and procession routes.

Officials have appealed to devotees to cooperate with security personnel, follow traffic advisories, and avoid carrying prohibited items while attending festival events. Police have also urged the public to report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest officer or emergency helpline.

The Bonalu festival, one of Telangana's most significant religious celebrations, attracts thousands of devotees from across the state every year. Given the expected crowds, authorities say the expanded deployment aims to ensure smooth conduct of all religious events while maintaining public safety and order.

Police have assured residents that all necessary arrangements are in place and that continuous monitoring will be carried out throughout the festival to respond quickly to any emergencies.
