A 79-year-old retired teacher from Peddashapur village in Shamshabad mandal passed away on Thursday after being struck by a speeding motorcycle while crossing the road near the Peddashapur bus stop.
The victim, identified as Mallepalli Bikshapathi, had left his home around 8.30 am to travel to Shadnagar, where his son was constructing a house. Around 8.40 am, as he crossed the road near the Peddashapur bus stop, a black Pulsar motorcycle travelling from Kothur towards Shamshabad allegedly hit him from the right side.
Police said the rider was allegedly driving at high speed and in a negligent manner. The motorcycle carried no registration number plate.
Bikshapathi sustained severe injuries to his abdomen, head and right hand. He was rushed to a private hospital in Shamshabad in a 108 ambulance. He was subsequently being taken to a hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment when he passed away on the way.
The Shamshabad police have registered a fatal road accident case.
