Vikarabad Municipal Workers Protest Unpaid Salaries for Three Months

<p>Contract sanitation and municipal workers in Vikarabad have launched an unusual one-leg protest after going three months without pay, warning they will walk off the job indefinitely if the government does not act by September 14.</p>
<p>A video circulating on social media shows a group of workers standing on one leg with one hand raised, a visual demonstration of the financial distress they say has built up over several months. The workers allege that repeated complaints to Vikarabad Municipal Chairman Gaddam Ananya and the Vice Chairman have yielded no result.</p>
<p>"We have not received our salaries for three months. We are unable to pay our children's school fees or meet our daily needs. Most of us do not have our own house and live in rented accommodation. Some landlords have threatened to evict us, while others have thrown out our belongings. We are struggling and in distress," said one worker at the protest.</p>
<p>Speaking on behalf of the Municipal Workers' Union (CITU), the workers demanded swift government action and said that if their grievances are not addressed by Monday, September 14, they will stop reporting to work and begin an indefinite strike.</p>
<p>Vikarabad is the Assembly constituency of Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.</p>
<p>Vice Chairman A Sudhakar Reddy confirmed the salary delay, saying the municipality had not received funds from the general funds. He added that the administration was currently focused on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) being conducted across Telangana. When asked directly about the workers' Monday deadline, Reddy did not give a firm commitment but said, "The issue will be sorted within five days."</p>
