Several Tollywood celebrities and other prominent personalities based in Hyderabad have reportedly chosen to retain their voting rights in their native places in Andhra Pradesh, giving up their place on the city's electoral rolls.
The development has emerged during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana. Election officials say a number of film personalities, including members of well-known Tollywood families, have informed Booth Level Officers that they wish to remain on the voter lists in their hometowns in Andhra Pradesh.
The names of the celebrities who have opted out of Hyderabad's voter rolls have not been officially disclosed.
According to officials, some of these personalities may not regularly cast their vote in their native places either, but have still chosen to maintain their electoral ties there. Reasons cited include a continued emotional and personal connection with their hometowns. Several celebrities also own agricultural land, homes and other properties in Andhra Pradesh, keeping those places central to their family roots.
The development has drawn attention because many of these personalities have lived in Hyderabad for several decades and treat the city as their primary professional and personal home. The issue has come into particular focus in Jubilee Hills, which houses a large section of the Telugu film industry, including actors, directors and producers.
Over the years, prominent names from Telugu cinema, including Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun, Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Mahesh Babu, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Naga Chaitanya, Prabhas, Vijay Deverakonda and Rana Daggubati, have been associated with Jubilee Hills as residents or voters. However, none of these names should be taken as being among those who have opted out of Hyderabad's voter rolls, since the identities of the celebrities involved in the latest development have not been officially revealed.
