Telangana Crosses 95% Pulse Polio Coverage On Opening Day

Hyderabad: Telangana recorded an impressive response on the first day of the nationwide Pulse Polio Immunisation campaign, with 95.1% of the targeted children vaccinated.

Health Department officials said over 38.9 lakh children under the age of five were given oral polio vaccine on Sunday. The state has set a target of vaccinating more than 40.9 lakh children during the campaign.

Thousands of vaccination centres were opened across Telangana, including government hospitals, primary health centres, Anganwadi centres, schools and public places. Medical staff, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and volunteers worked together to ensure that children received the vaccine.

Officials said the campaign received a positive response from parents, helping the state achieve high coverage on the very first day.

To reach children who missed the vaccination booths, health teams will now begin door-to-door visits in different districts. The department has appealed to parents to cooperate with health workers and ensure every child below five years receives the polio drops.

The Pulse Polio programme is conducted every year to keep India free from polio and protect children from the disease.
