The Maharashtra government has announced a ban on the sale of Sting energy drinks within 500 metres of schools across the state. The decision has been taken to protect school students from the harmful effects of high-caffeine beverages and promote healthier food choices.
Officials said the move follows growing concerns over the increasing consumption of energy drinks among children. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also collected samples of the beverage for testing as part of its ongoing food safety measures.
The government has instructed authorities to ensure strict implementation of the ban around educational institutions. In addition, Maharashtra plans to strengthen food and beverage testing by establishing 22 new laboratories across the state to improve monitoring and enforcement.
The latest decision is part of the state's broader effort to safeguard student health and regulate the availability of products that may have adverse effects on children.
